Ash Barty and Rado mark the launch of the Ash Barty Foundation with surprise donation to Toowomba community. January 30, 2024 17:08
Rado was proud to be part of a special event dedicated to the official launch of the Ash Barty Foundation (AB Foundation) on the 15th of January at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Australia.
In one of the AB Foundation’s first initiatives, Ash and Rado paired up to surprise children in the Toowoomba region with a generous donation of tennis equipment. The young students from Toowoomba East State School and Toowoomba Anglican School were delighted when the Australian superstar personally presented them with Ash Barty HEAD Junior racquets at the Toowoomba Tennis Club, before helping them test their new gear on court in a special clinic. In addition to the two schools present on the day, new tennis nets were installed at a further six tennis clubs and Ash Barty Junior racquets were sent to all 29 of the primary schools in the region.
Toowoomba is a place that holds fond memories for Ash Barty. As a junior, she won the Easter tournament there, and frequently played in the local Pro Tour events, usually travelling with her family to compete. Rado’s support of the AB Foundation made it possible to surprise the budding young tennis stars in Toowoomba with a day they will never forget.
In a partnership spanning more than six years, Ash and Rado have collaborated frequently on philanthropic and watchmaking projects. Ash comments,
“Helping young people discover and pursue their own passions is something I feel very strongly about. I fell in love with tennis by chance. With help from the Rado family, we have been able to provide the children of Toowoomba with the opportunity to discover a passion that they can take with them through their life.”
“It’s our ability to work with partners such as Rado that make projects like the Toowoomba Surprise possible. Through our ongoing work through the AB foundation, we hope to provide many more opportunities to similar Aussie communities in the future.”
Rado CEO, Adrian Bosshard echoes the sentiment commenting, “Supporting growth and development opportunities for young people in the game of tennis is a legacy for both Ash, through her Foundation, and Rado, through our YoungStars program. We have already witnessed first-hand the effect that Ash has on the lives of young people in Australia and it’s our privilege to work with her to amplify the reach of the foundation’s activities.”
The Foundation launch featured guest speakers, entertainment, and an auction whose proceeds will go toward supporting the AB Foundation. One lucky bidder took home a specially engraved Rado x Ash Barty Centrix watch, which was presented by Rado CEO Adrian Bosshard who added, “Rado and Ash are a dream team. We are proud to have partnered with her long before she became the world’s top player and we’re thrilled to be able to support an initiative so close to her heart.”

A Vintage-Inspired Timepiece That's Perfectly In Tune With Modern-Day Living November 30, 2023 13:38
In the heart of Switzerland’s watchmaking center, RAYMOND WEIL has been nurturing its craftsmanship for nearly half a century with a relentless pursuit of creative elegance, innovative technicality and Swiss-made excellence, all offered at an unequalled price.
For this inaugural millesime collection, RAYMOND WEIL pays homage to the rich heritage and traditions of horology while celebrating the simplicity of refined design. The brand has naturally delved into the past, creating new timepieces that offer period charm combined with present-day practicality.
The complex and carefully orchestrated watchmaking process behind the millesime collection highlights the brand’s expertise, skill, and precision. From the delicate assembly of the mechanical self-winding movement to the intricate finishing touches, every component is crafted with the utmost care. The result is a symphony of complex details that captivates watch enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
The collection comprises two horological variations referenced 2925 and 2930, one featuring a center-seconds and the other a small seconds display at 6 o’clock. Both models are housed in a slender stainless-steel case, measuring 39.5mm in diameter and enjoy a graceful thin profile.
The dial, located beneath a vintage-inspired sapphire crystal glassbox, has been refined to the highest degree. The hours and minutes are eloquently conveyed with silver-toned hands, lined with SuperLumiNova®. The sector dial presents the hours, minutes and seconds periods on discrete tracks, augmenting readability. A closer inspection of the dial reveals contrasting finishes. For instance, the hour track is smooth, the minute track is snailed and the central area of the dial is adorned with a delicate vertical brush. As previously stated, the millesime 2930 features a small seconds display at 6 o’clock which is enriched with a tasteful selection of details. For instance, it is delineated with a neat recessed circlet, introducing a seemly play with depths.
The bezel is decorated with a vertical satin-brush that contrasts wonderfully with the highly polished bevel nearby. This juxtaposition of two finishes reinforces the overall level of finishing, a characteristic that distinguishes the millesime collection as special within a crowded marketplace.
A sapphire caseback affords sight of the self-winding movement within and the “W-shaped” oscillating weight, RAYMOND WEIL’s horological signature. Offered in a selection of dial colours, each model is paired with a colour-coordinating genuine calf leather strap with a unique W-stitched detail.
As the name suggests, the collection is a grand vintage interpretation of the RAYMOND WEIL brand. It represents an enduring family legacy and a commitment to preserving generations of Swiss-made artistry while honouring the craftmanship, finesse and passion of watchmaking. Millesime timepieces are genuine collector’s item.

JAA Lifetime Achievement Award July 13, 2021 17:39
This year the Jewellers Association of Australia has awarded Alfredo Salera, from Salera’s, the honourable JAA Lifetime Achievement Awards for his sustained contributions to the industry, exceptional personal integrity and high standards and his service as a role model to his peers. Here is his story.
In 1952, a young Italian jeweller and watchmaker by the name of Alfredo Salera boarded the Castel Felice on its maiden voyage from Genoa, Italy to Melbourne, Australia.
During the voyage, the ship’s captain learned of Alfredo’s trade and approached him to repair his watch. After Alfredo refused payment for the repair, Captain Matarese offered to set up a stand on the ship for Alfredo to tend to the watch repair requirements of other passengers throughout the journey.
By the time the ship landed in Melbourne, Alfredo had earned enough to open the very first Salera’s store in North Melbourne, Victoria. Not long after, he relocated the store to the suburb of Footscray in Melbourne’s West where there was a significant European migrant population.
At that time there was a general lack of fine gold Italian jewellery available in Australia. Alfredo and his wife, Mirella, worked hard in the store and built up the store’s stock to a point where the store became a destination for customers throughout Melbourne and even country areas looking for Italian jewellery. They also focussed on engagement rings and it was traditional for European customers to buy engagement rings for both men and women as well as a collection of jewellery for the bridal event. The store would often be filled by family on both the bride and groom’s side who would attend the store and assist with the selection process, which would last for hours. It was often the case that Alfredo and Mirella would then be invited to the weddings and they would attend many customer weddings each year.
As was typical for jewellery stores at that time, the product range was vast and included clocks and watches glassware, silverware, pens, music boxes, picture frames and offered services including in house watch repairs, jewellery repairs and even in-house ear piercing. However, Alfredo recognised the need for watch brands that were recognised by his customers. It took him considerable time and energy for him to convince the distributors of fine Swiss brands to allow his suburban store to be an agent for their product. His persistence paid off and Alfredo established relationships with Swiss watch suppliers that often lasted for decades. The secret for the long-standing relationships was simple, he would always treat then with respect and provide his suppliers with support when times were bad.
For example, when the Swiss watch company went through the Japanese invasion of the watch industry, brands like Omega would ask Alfredo to take up their excess stock. Alfredo always followed the policy of being a big buyer and good payer and was happy to assist whenever possible. In some cases, he assisted knowing that he would not be making a good stock purchase but did so in order to assist the supplier. These favours were never forgotten, and the suppliers would always provide Alfredo with opportunities before offering them to others.
Recognising the appetite for gold jewellery, Alfredo started a wholesale gold business. He operated this from the back office in his retail store and employed agents throughout Australia to sell his product. He also opened a furniture business which included several retail stores plus a furniture manufacturing factory specialising in Italian style furniture.

The retail business continued to prosper, and Alfredo decided to double the size of his original store and then open a second store in the same suburb of Footscray. Realising that he could not successfully run all these businesses he decided to focus on his first love, being the jewellery retail. However, it was not long before shopping centres started to appear and compete with strip stores. Fortunately, the Salera’s stores were still offering a product that was not generally available and the personalised service ensured continuing customer loyalty for some time but it was clear to Alfredo that the business had to move with the trend.
In 1985, Alfredo and Mirella’s sons, Frank and Robert, joined the family business. This provided the additional manpower that would allow growth beyond the two stores and the company expanded to Swanston Street, Melbourne and soon after to a number of suburban shopping centres where the Salera brand was well received. The company then expanded into Queensland opening a number of stores in that state.
Now, over 60 years after its humble beginnings, the diverse collections of diamonds, fine jewellery and premium watches found in Salera’s are available across locations throughout Melbourne and metropolitan Brisbane. However, for Alfredo it was not just about the business but more about the relationships. As a migrant to Australia, he arrived with a small amount of money but received considerable support from people both within the industry and outside. Alfredo has a distinct and likeable character and made a point of always being true to his word.
His first car was bought with money that was lent to him by his a local ‘Aussie’ butcher who he came to know who gave him the money on a handshake. When Alfredo returned the money well ahead of time the butcher told him that he could hold on to the money for longer and use it for his business. Alfredo politely declined the offer. The assistance that he received in the early years from friends and business suppliers was appreciated to the point where he would do whatever he could to assist anyone who needed help. If a sale rep was unfortunate enough to lose his job Alfredo would be the first to ring his other suppliers to try and secure another job.
Relationships with suppliers, sales reps and customers were the foundation for Alfredo’s love of the jewellery business. The opportunity to speak to these people face to face provided him with the motivation to happily go to work every day.
Now, at the age of 92, Alfredo and his wife Mirella still attend work seven days per week at one of their stores in the Western suburbs of Melbourne where they serve the grandchildren of their first customers at Footscray.
The jewellery trade is not a job, it is a lifestyle that satisfies all of their needs.

Measuring 42mm in diameter, the freelancer AC/DC Limited Edition exudes a notable air of masculinity. AC/DC is delighted to be part of RAYMOND WEIL’s music Icons series. It was essential that the design of the watch represent the tireless energy of the band. The balance between being aesthetically pleasing and mechanically crafted was key in the design process” says Norman Perry, president and founder of Perryscope Productions who along with Epic Rights are AC/DC’s worldwide licensing representatives.
RAYMOND WEIL continues to use music as its key inspiration for both product design and marketing of the Brand worldwide. It carefully selects its music icon partners based on very specific touch points. The honesty and trueness of the design process and intricate detailing placed within each timepiece is what sets the music icons series apart. How to clean and care for your jewellery October 31, 2017 10:00
Many of us probably still think our jewellery doesn’t need a clean.
Though you may not realise it, your jewellery needs some care and a good clean from time to time. Neglect your jewellery and you may notice it getting tarnished or grubby.
Be it an heirloom piece or dress jewellery, all jewellery pieces need be looked after. This is especially true for handmade jewellery.
Handmade jewellery are precious, crafted pieces that have to be kept at their best to prolong their lifespan.
If your jewellery needs a clean and you don’t know where to start, fret not. We’ve prepared some tips on how to care for your jewellery.
- Give it a clean
Lightly clean your jewellery using mild dish soap, water and a soft toothbrush. After cleaning, be sure to dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. Then let it air dry for a time before putting it away. You may brighten it up with a jewellery polishing cloth from time to time.
- Remove jewellery before showering and doing chores
Never wear your jewellery when bathing, showering, or cleaning. Soaps or body care products used while bathing, showering and cleaning can cause a film to form, making your jewellery appear dull.
- Polish your jewellery
Polish your silver or gold with a jewellery polishing cloth for best results. Professional cloths are best. Be careful as some cloths, tissue or paper towels can cause scratches because of the fibres present in these products.
- Use appropriate products
Be careful when cleaning jewellery and be sure to use the right products to avoid damage. Warm water is great for cleaning many types of jewellery. However, be aware that water can cause reactions when combined with some cleaning fluids. This reaction can result in discolouration. Sterling silver is especially susceptible to this.
- Avoid cleaning damaged jewellery
Never clean any jewellery that is damaged, cracked or broken. The additional handling is likely to worsen the problem instead of improving it. If you find that a piece of jewellery is damaged, it should be set aside for repair as soon as possible.
- Check jewellery for problems
When having your jewellery professionally cleaned, it's a good idea to have each item checked for any possible problems. Addressing signs of damage or loose gemstones will prevent any further damage or loss, keeping all of your pieces in excellent shape for years.

TAG Heuer CARRERA Heuer-01 43 mm February 24, 2017 10:35
In black, navy blue and cognac brown, and a new diameter of 43 mm, the famous Heuer-01 Skeleton Manufacture Chronograph is available in 6 new references in steel with a matching ceramic bezel.
Unveiled in 2015, the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer-01 opened the doors to a new market. A 45 mm Skeleton Manufacture Chronograph with a contemporary sports design at its price point redefined the notion of value for money.
This year, the famous proprietary chronograph is being unveiled with a slightly smaller diameter of 43 mm, in a choice of three versions: intense black, deep navy blue and an elegant cognac brown.
The brilliance of the polished ceramic tachymeter bezel echoes the polished, satin-finished steel of the iconic 12-part modular case. The skeleton dial – the trademark of the Heuer-01 – and the sapphire case-back reveal the beauty of the mechanism. The chronograph operating levers and the date disc are open-worked on the dial side. On the case-back, the red column wheel — a bold visual anchor — the skeleton chronograph bridge and circular black PVD weight also draw the
eye into the mechanism, which is equipped with a clutch with oscillating pinion.
All of the movement's Chrono functions are identified by the colour red, in a nod to the world of motor racing: the central seconds, the 30-minute counter, the 12-hour counter and the Start/Stop push-button. A sporty exterior complements the Heuer-01 Manufacture Chronograph movement, named in honour of the brand's founder, Edouard Heuer. And 01 because it was the first of a new generation of chronographs.
After more than five years of continuous improvement and optimisation, it now offers a very high level of quality, while its production costs have been carefully managed to make it one of the very few 100% Manufacture Chronographs available at its price point.

“For GC2018, signing our first international tier one partner with over one year to go, illustrates the reputation GC2018 are developing as a strong brand with international appeal. “In terms of tradition, Longines have been a long-time supporter of the Commonwealth Games movement having delivered timing services to the Perth 1962 Commonwealth Games and most recently being a partner of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. “Longines support, performance and expertise as the Official Timekeeper is critical to delivering large multi-sport events and I welcome them to the GC2018 Family,” Mr Beattie said.
Juan-Carlos Capelli, Vice President of Longines and Head of International Marketing, said, “Longines is delighted to be the Official Partner of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, one of the most famous sporting events in the world. We are really proud that organizers place their trust in our brand and choose us as Official Timekeeper of all the competitions, which will be held during the event. We are looking forward to seeing remarkable sporting achievements, especially in Athletics (Track & Field), Gymnastics, Rugby Sevens and Table Tennis, the sports we are partnering with during the Commonwealth Games.”
Acting Minister for the Commonwealth Games, Curtis Pitt said timing is everything when it comes to a gold, silver or bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. “Longines is known around the world for excellence in precision timing and I look forward to seeing many Australian record-breaking performances captured by Longines’ official time keeping equipment in Games competition venues and on broadcast television across the Commonwealth,” Minister Pitt said.
“Athletes from 70 Commonwealth nations and territories are training hard right now for medals on the Gold Coast in 2018, and it’s important their efforts are recorded accurately for all time.”
GOLDOC Chief Executive Officer, Mark Peters said he looked forward to working closely with Longines and welcomed their ongoing support of the Commonwealth Games. “As we get closer to GC2018 our focus is on delivering an unforgettable global Games and our work with Longines is crucial to shaping the experience for spectators, broadcasters, working media and a cumulative television audience of up to 1.5 billion people,” Mr Peters said.
“Over 200 Longines technicians will be working on the timing, scoring and results during Games time delivering Games overlay requirements across all 18 competition venues.
Mr Peters said as part of the sponsorship arrangements, Longines is presenting partner for a number of sports with their branding to adorn the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) uniforms across the 388-day journey from Buckingham Palace to the Gold Coast. “The QBR is GC2018’s longest continual promotion. Starting in London on March 13 the baton will travel 230,000 kilometres across 70 nations and territories of the Commonwealth before arriving at the Gold Coast to start the Games.”, he said.

DiaMaster Grande Seconde becomes latest award-winning Rado timepiece March 9, 2016 10:08
Rado’s distinctive DiaMaster Grande Seconde has received the prestigious 2015 GOOD DESIGN™ award, further expanding the brand’s impressive collection of award-winning watches. The Rado DiaMaster Grande Seconde is a classic gentleman’s timepiece with a twist: The dial displays two overlapping sub-dials, one for hours and minutes, the other for seconds. The showstopping 43mm dial fastens to the wrist with a sumptuous embossed calf leather bracelet.
But it’s not just good looks that make the DiaMaster Grande Seconde so remarkable. The unique timepiece is also a stage where Rado’s mastery of materials takes the spotlight. The case of the DiaMaster Grande Seconde is engineered from plasma high-tech ceramic, a signature Rado material that was also pioneered by the brand.
Materials mastery
In Rado’s plasma process, finished white ceramic components are placed in a plasma furnace, where gases activated at 20,000°C trigger a molecular reaction that gives the piece a unique metallic luster. With this cutting-edge process, Rado is able to offer metallic-looking watches with all the comfort of high-tech ceramic: Scratch-resistant, light and hypoallergenic, the benefits of high-tech ceramic remain unaffected by the plasma transformation. The DiaMaster Grande Seconde’s eye-catching plasma case encircles its large unconventional dial, making this timepiece, as well as its wearer, stand out.
The 2015 GOOD DESIGN™ award is the fourth design award Rado has won recently, following on the heels of Rado’s three-time award winner from 2014, the HyperChrome Ceramic Touch Dual Timer.

The Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph September 14, 2015 10:45
The Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph – A reissue of a sleekly designed Single Push-Piece Chronograph.
With over 180 years of watchmaking history, Longines have produced a plethora of iconic timepieces that are elegant in both their appearance and operation. Enter the Longines Heritage Collection - each watch a manifestation of the company's tradition and experience, featuring many reissues of models from the Longines Museum.
The latest addition to the Heritage Collection is the Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph, a soberly elegant timepiece inspired by a Longines model produced in the first half of the 20th century.
The exclusive chronograph movement is housed in a 41mm stainless steel case, embracing the wearer's wrist with a black or brown leather strap. The blued column-wheel and fine details of the movement are visible through a transparent case back. Chronograph functionality is controlled via the ultimate simplicity of a single push-piece built into the crown.
Time and time measured are displayed on a black matte or white lacquer dial with rhodium-plated or blued steel hands respectively, reaching towards contrasting arabic numerals and a tachymeter scale.

Raymond Weil's First Pilot Watch August 4, 2015 17:05
In partnership with the legendary Piper Aircraft Inc. aviation manufacturer, Raymond Weil presents its first ever pilot watch, the Freelancer Piper.
Made of titanium and stainless steel, this 45mm freelancer features a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement with date and GMT functions, making it easy for all experienced pilots to read. The shiny blue minute and hour hands resemble the aircraft’s rotor blades while the GMT hand, with its red pointer, references a compass. The small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock is inspired by the attitude indicator and the openwork black leather strap completes the aviator look of the timepiece.
With its tachometric bezel, 100-meter water resistance and 46-hour power reserve, flying enthusiasts can set off to conquer the skies and discover new horizons above the clouds. Each freelancer Piper watch will be offered in a special box, which will include a model of a RAYMOND WEIL-branded Piper aircraft.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with best-in-class manufacturer, Piper Aircraft Inc. on our first-ever pilot watch. Raymond Weil was not only a visionary and daring entrepreneur but also a passionate pilot and the proud owner of a Piper plane”, says Elie Bernheim, CEO of RAYMOND WEIL.
“The Freelancer Piper is a fitting homage to my grandfather and the invaluable heritage he left us. I am sure he would be immensely proud of this new introduction.”
Throughout his life, Raymond Weil demonstrated a visionary’s thinking, an independence of spirit and an admirable determination. An enthusiastic pilot, he was particularly fond of mountain flights, especially around the Matterhorn, which he did not hesitate to admire with his Piper plane during his travels in Switzerland. As a nod to the man’s dear passions, the advertising campaign unveiling the freelancer Piper watch features the Swiss Alps and displays a RAYMOND WEIL-branded Piper plane.

Press Release: Combining Forces March 13, 2015 15:47
Interesting news today from the world of Oris.
Oris has become the official partner of the United States Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance.
Read the Press Release below, courtesy of Oris:
"Oris is very proud to announce a new partnership with the United States Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance, also known as Force Recon, one of the elite US Special Forces companies."
"Force Recon is a special operations command unit – like the US Navy Seals or Army Special Forces – that operates independently behind enemy lines to provide military intelligence to Marine Air-Ground Task Forces, performing deep reconnaissance and direct action missions at sea and on land.
For Force Recon, Oris has created a high-performance, state-of-the-art wristwatch designed to meet the unit’s demanding equipment standards. The Oris Force Recon GMT is based on Oris’s innovative ProDiver, the diver’s watch renowned for its Oris-developed Rotation Safety System, which locks the bezel into place according to the wearer’s requirements.
This special watch has a new Oris GMT movement, giving it a second time zone, indicated via a central hand and a 24-hour scale around the dial. It also has an innovative small seconds display at 9 o’clock, designed to show the wearer the watch is working in low-light conditions, a useful device when ‘going dark’.
The 49mm case is made of titanium and treated with a tough black DLC coating, while the unidirectional rotating bezel inlay is made of scratch-resistant matt black ceramic. The watch comes on a black rubber strap, with a black NATO fabric strap option included in the presentation case. The rubber strap features Oris’s pioneering quick-adjustment sliding sledge folding clasp, which can be adjusted while the watch is being worn. Protection and cover is offered by a ‘tactical watch cover’ – a mask with a retractable top section that wraps around the watch.
The dial carries the Force Recon emblem, which is also engraved on the case back. The watch comes in a black water-resistant case, and will be delivered in June 2015."
